Gary Paul Askew, 66, of Portsmouth, passed away Nov. 16, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Nancy (Beardsley) Askew. He was a 28-year Navy veteran, retiring as a chief. He also leaves behind four children and two great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 20, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Norman M. Fucile, 73, of Middletown, passed away Nov. 17, 2014 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Ellen F. (Sharkey) Fucile. He also leaves behind his three children and four grandchildren. Calling hours will be Nov. 20, from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral will be Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Newport.

Eunice F. (Woodlyn) Haley, 98, of Newport, passed away Nov. 12, 2014 at Heatherwood Nursing Home, Newport. She leaves behind her grandsons, Andre Gomes and Marques Woodlyn, both of Newport, and Damian Woodlyn of Portsmouth, and several greatgrandchildren. Calling hours will be Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. - noon at Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at noon in the funeral home.

Joseph A. Magliocco Jr., 84, of Portsmouth, passed away Nov. 17, 2014 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Monica K. Magliocco. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and as a teacher and coach for more than 30 years at Middletown High School. He also leaves behind four children and five grandchildren. John Charles Nelson Sr., 81, of Newport, passed away Nov. 14, 2014 at John Clarke Retirement and Nursing Center, Middletown. He was the husband of Edna Wells Nelson and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He also leaves behind his six children: John Nelson Jr., Mark Nelson and David Nelson all of Newport, Helena Miller of Middletown, and Linda Hickman and Lawrence Nelson, both of Chesapeake, Va., as well as 14 grandchildren and 33 greatgrandchildren. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church, Newport. His funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Newport Memorial Park.

Lawrence J. “Larry” Oakley, 66, of Newport, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 18, 2014 at Newport Hospital. His parents were co-founders of the Maher Center, along with 13 other local families. Larry is the last of the original group of children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Newport. Donations in his memory may be made to the James L. Maher Center, 120 Hillside Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
