Alliance Française Celebrates Bastille Day

Allons Enfants: The Alliance Française of Newport will be celebrating Bastille Day with a series of “14 Juillet” events. On Thursday, July 14, at 5:15 p.m. at King Park, the group will lay a wreath at the statue of Comte de Rochambeau. From 6-8 p.m. at the Redwood Library, local pianist David Manuel will present a hit parade of popular French music through the decades, as well as a presentation by Benedict Leca, Ph.D., Redwood Executive Director, on the art of Paul Cézanne. Redwood Library is located at 50 Bellevue Avenue in Newport.

The public is invited. The event is free to all AFN members and $15 for non-members. Space is limited, and reservations are required. The deadline for reservations is July 9, 2016.

The Alliance Française of Newport, which has been part of the international organization of the same name for more than six decades, is dedicated to the study of the French language and to promoting cultural exchange. Members of the AFN participate in conversation groups, cultural events (such as the annual French Film Festival at Salve Regina University), art gallery and museum events, as well as lectures about French history and francophone culture.
