After a few days of well-deserved rest, the Volvo Ocean Race teams will hit the water again May 17 for a few days of racing before heading out on the next leg May 20. Grab your favorite spot along the shoreline to get a glimpse of exciting, up-close racing on the bay.



Pro-Am Race 1:
12:30 p.m. & 4:15 p.m. Starts


Pro-Am Race 2:
1:15 p.m. & 6:15 p.m. Starts


In-Port Race: 2 p.m. Start


Leg Restart: 2 p.m. Start


• The racing area safety zone will be enforced starting one hour prior to racing.

• During racing events, recreational transit in the East Passage of Narragansett Bay will be around the western (Conanicut Island) perimeter of the Racing Area.

• Newport Harbor is a “no discharge zone.”

• A speed limit of 5mph (no wake) is strictly enforced.

• Anchoring is NOT permitted.

• Please be familiar with NOAA Nautical Chart #13223 including the Racing Area.

• Spectators are asked to stay outside of the lines delineated by “Stake Boats” flying large yellow “Newport RI USA” flags from their rigs. Course Marshals will actively patrol these lines and fly a yellow official flag.

• Boats shall NOT enter the Racing Area at any time without permission.

• Refusal to adhere to any request from Volvo Ocean Race officials may result in action from the U.S. Coast Guard and/or local marine authorities.

• In case of emergency, contact the U.S. Coast Guard on VHF 16.
