For What It’s Worth

A lady recently brought in a “toy soldiers’ hat” inquiring of its age and value.

She thought that it was part of a toy uniform; however, I recognized that it was a party favor for a Viennese Imperial Ball dating a few years before World War I. These mementos of Hapsburg formal balls are highly collectible and in Vienna would sell for around $1,000.
