Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, May 07 through Monday, May 14, the Newport Police Department responded to 738 calls. Of those, 198 were motor vehicle related; there were 163 motor vehicle violations issued and 35 accident reports.

Police responded to 4 calls of vandalism, 9 noise complaints, 11 animal complaints, 12 suspicious persons or vehicles, and 61 parking complaints. They performed 25 home/business alarm calls/checks, 7 private tows and 40 school security checks. They transported 3 prisoners, escorted 2 funerals and assisted 5 other police departments and 2 other agencies.

In addition, 39 arrests were made for the following violations:

6 were made for underage drinking

4 were made for larceny

3 were made for vandalism

3 were made for bench warrants

2 were made for driving with a suspended or revoked license

2 were made for domestic disorderly conduct

2 were made for purchasing alcohol for a minor

2 were made for driving without a license or expired

1 was made for public urination

1 was made for possession of marijuana

1 was made for simple assault

1 was made for possession of narcotics

1 was made for second-degree molestation

1 was made for open container

1 was made for violating a no-contact order
