Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, May 28 through Monday, June 4, the Newport Police Department responded to 752 calls. Of those, 181 were motor vehicle related; there were 138 motor vehicle violations issued and 43 accident reports.

Police responded to 7 calls of vandalism, 1 suicide call, 17 noise complaints, 19 animal complaints, 11 suspicious persons or vehicles, 2 bicycle violations and 106 parking complaints. They performed 21 home/business alarm calls/checks, 9 private tows, 2 liquor establishment checks, and 21 school security checks. They transported 4 prisoners, and assisted 8 other police departments and 3 other agency.

In addition, 23 arrests were made for the following violations:

3 were made for DUI

3 were made for disorderly conduct

2 were made for possession of marijuana

2 were made for driving with a suspended license

1 was made for domestic simple assault

1 was made for vandalism

1 was made for underage drinking

1 was made for resisting arrest

1 was made for shoplifting

1 was made for a missing juvenile/ runaway

1 was made for a bench warrant

1 was made for a suspended registration

1 was made for failure to restraint an animal

1 was made for leaving the scene of a collision

1 was made for 1st-degree sexual assault

1 was made for failure to register as a sexual offender

1 was made for possession of firearms by a minor
