St. Mark Film Fest

St. Mark’s Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown will hold a film festival, “Real Life Catholic,” on Thursdays from July 5 to 26. The film series will begin after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and lasts approximately 90 minutes. Learn about the lives of contemporary Catholics and discuss each film. Midsummer Island Retreat

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, will hold a midsummer island retreat for the community featuring live music, a campfire, historic tours, potluck and more. Celtic Spirituality

John Philip Newell, author of “Listening for the Heartbeat of God: A Celtic Spirituality,” is one of the most prominent Christian teachers of spirituality in the Western world. He will give a talk at Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., on Sunday, July 8, at 2:30 p.m. Books and CDs will be available, and can be signed by Newell. The price of the talk is $13. Hellenic Fest

Four Enduring Faiths Walking Tour

This escorted, half-mile walking tour will be held on Mondays, July 9-Sept. 3, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. It will include Touro Synagogue, 85 Touro St., Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport Congregational Church, 73 Pelham St., and Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham St. The tour begins at Touro Synagogue. The synagogue’s Loeb Center opens at 9:30 a.m. and admission is included in the price of the tour ticket, Admission is $10 to $20. Concert at St. John’s

On Tuesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m., St. John’s Church will present a concert featuring the St. Marylebone School Choir, the Professional Choristers of Newport County, and the women of St. John’s Choir. St. Marylebone School is an all-girls Church of England secondary school specializing in the performing arts and located in the heart of London. The price of the concert is $10 to $15. Margit Baum Fund Grants

Emmanuel Church of Newport was recently awarded $10,000 in grant funds to help stabilize people’s lives with housing, food security and employment resources. This year the monies were shared with three Newport agencies; Housing Hotline, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and Turning Around Ministries.

In 2001 Margit Baum of Newport bequeathed a fund for Emmanuel Church to distribute to those in need in Newport. The Reverend Dr. Anita Schell said “The Emmanuel Church vestry decided in 2016 to give the annual grant to local agencies whose sole purpose is to serve those in need. Each year local agencies are invited to apply for the grant funds.

Emmanuel Church selected these agencies for their programs to provide housing assistance, food, and employment training through their direct contact with those individuals in need.

Pathway to Hope

The Women’s Resource Center is hosting a “Pathway to Hope” celebration on Thursday, July 26, at 5 p.m. at 11 Touro St. to honor the 20-year anniversary of its commemorative brick walkway and to unveil its new porch. There will be appetizers, wine tastings by Newport Vineyards, and music provided by Chelley Knight & The Day Breaks. Valet parking is available at the Hotel Viking.
