Summer Arboreta Tour

The Chalet, overlooking Newport Harbor, is one of the properties on the Arboreta tour. Its focus is restoring historic plantings and "shadow planting" new specimens alongside mature trees whose lifespans are nearing their end. The Chalet, overlooking Newport Harbor, is one of the properties on the Arboreta tour. Its focus is restoring historic plantings and "shadow planting" new specimens alongside mature trees whose lifespans are nearing their end. In addition to our famous mansions, Newport is home to a legendary urban forest. Gilded Age tree hunters, landscape architects and estate gardeners cultivated a dizzying array of specimen trees that are still here today.

The Newport Tree Society is hosting a special opportunity on Tuesday, July 17 to view some of the city's finest private tree collections and landscapes. Tours will meet at Rogers High School, where attendees will board a trolley at 10 a.m. for a guided tour of four of Newport's 15 professionally accredited arboreta. Exploring the grounds of these arboreta will be on foot, so dress for the weather, bring water and wear comfortable shoes. Event cost is $25. To attend, email trees@newportarboretum.org.
