Newport Police Log

During the period from Monday, Sept. 24 through Monday, Oct. 1 the Newport Police Department responded to 574 calls. Of those, 141 were motor vehicle related; there were 89 motor vehicle violations issued and 52 accident reports.

Police responded to 13 noise complaints, 18 animal complaints, 15 suspicious persons or vehicles, 1 bicycle violation, 2 suicide calls, 4 calls of vandalism and 37 parking complaints. They performed 31 home/business alarm calls/checks, 3 private tows, 36 school security checks and they transported 6 prisoners, escorted 1 funeral and assisted 6 other police departments and 4 other agencies.

In addition, 22 arrests were made for the following violations:

  • 3 were made for bench warrants
  • 2 were made for domestic simple assault
  • 2 were made for willful trespassing
  • 2 were made for possession of narcotics with the intent to manufacture or deliver
  • 2 were made for DUI
  • 2 were made for shoplifting
  • 1 was made for driving without a license or expired
  • 1 was made for larceny
  • 1 was made for vandalism
  • 1 was made for domestic vandalism
  • 1 was made for disorderly conduct
  • 1 was made for underage drinking
  • 1 was made for possession of marijuana
  • 1 was made for leaving the scene of a collision
  • 1 was made for a noise violation
