Barracudas at Home

(Photos by Don Farias) The Boys & Girls Club of Newport County’s competitive swim team known as the Barracudas had their first home meet of the season on Oct. 20. The team lost the meet to The Boys & Girls Club of East Providence Tidal Waves but realized several personal bests.

The Barracuda Swim Team is part of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts League (RIMA), made up of Boys & Girls Club and recreational swim team catering to youth ages 6 to 18 years of age. The season runs from October until March/early April. To join the Barracuda team, contact the Boys & Girls Club’s Aquatics Director Anne Weeks at aweeks@bgcnewport.org or at 401-847-6927 x 132.

Key results for the Barracudas are as follows.

Jei’lani F., 8, placed first in the 25-yard freestyle 25-yard breaststroke.

Michael F., 15, placed first in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, and second place in the 50-yard freestyle.

Brynn P., 12, placed first in the 50-yard freestyle.

Phillip C., 10, placed first in the 50-yard freestyle. He also placed first in the 50-yard backstroke.

Kira P., 10, placed first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 individual medley, and the 50-yard backstroke.

Amelia O., 11, placed first in the 50-yard fly.

Emmaline O., 7, placed first in the under 25-yard backstroke.
