Newport: A Community that Cares

To the Editor:

The Thompson Middle School Student Council and the Newport Community School would like to take this opportunity to give a big and heartfelt thank you to all of those who donated and helped us with our third annual Thanksgiving dinner.

The Newport community came together in such a big way to help us execute the best Thanksgiving dinner we have ever had. Thank you to the Viking Hotel, Newport Marriott, Stop and Shop Newport, Salve Regina University, TMS parents, grandparents, uncles, teachers, TMS students and RHS National Honor Society students who donated, cooked, carved, served and donated again.

We were able to serve over 175 Thompson Middle School students a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all of the fixings you could imagine. We were also able to pay it forward at the end of the meal when members of the Rogers High School National Honor Society delivered leftovers from our evening to the McKinney Shelter on Meeting Street.

This thank you honestly does not do justice to the generosity we witnessed in putting this particular event together for our middle school students. We know we are very, very lucky to be serving the Thompson Middle School students every day, and Friday night Nov. 16 helped us to see that our students are luckier than they even know. They are growing up in a community where people care.
