Kabbalat Shabbat

Temple Shalom invites the public to its Kabbalat Shabbat Services Friday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m. Oneg Shabbat, light refreshments and congeniality will follow after services. The temple is located at 223 Valley Road, Middletown.

Chicken Dinner

The Church of the Holy Cross, 1439 West Main Road, Middletown, will hold its 23rd annual chicken dinner on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 5-7 p.m. Salad, baked potato, corn on the cob, chicken, pie and beverages will be served, and there will be a raffle. Matsiko World Orphan Choir

Series on Aging

Prayer Meeting

Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, will host a prayer meeting on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 7-8 pm. Bereavement Support Group

St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, hosts a bereavement support group for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group meets in the parish center on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. Upcoming meetings are on Sept. 13 and 27. Hospice Volunteer Training

Hospice volunteers are important members of the Hospice Interdisciplinary team, providing compassionate care to people with life-limiting illnesses. Call Joy Benson, hospice volunteer coordinator, 401-682-2100, ext. 1616 or 401-256-3372 to learn more or to schedule an interview. The next volunteer training will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and run for six consecutive Tuesdays, ending on Oct. 23. Classes are from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in Portsmouth.
